Recently Iceland and Norway have been making assertive moves towards the trade in whale meat with Japan taking the global conservation campaign to protect whales and dolphins back over 20 years.  The where the international whaling commission (IWC) has failed these species by allowing such nations to just opt out of the ban, it would be hoped that the convention on international trade in endangered species (CITES) will be able to succeed. However with the first large shipment of minke and endangered fin whale already received by the Japanese before Christmas 08, it does not look likely.


Try and stop the floodgates opening to the trade in tons of dead whale!
