ABOUT US

Here at Operation Oceanica we are attempting to create a global database, initially of the sightings of whales and dolphins, and ultimately many different types of organisms.

We hope to give organisations that aid members of the public the opportunity to see whales and dolphins in the wild free advertising, whilst giving potential customers a resource where they can find where to go whalewatching and read other peoples comments of their experience.  In return we hope that a few tourists will feel inclined to share some pictures of cetaceans for research purposes.  It is the amount of photos we receive which will determine the amount of free advertising space the companies will get.

We have no intention in analysing the photos ourselves.  There are plenty of people studying their populations of cetaceans and will recognise each individual far quicker than us and with greater accuracy.  We will therefore distribute the photos freely to people who are working towards the conservation and further understanding of specific species, and will not stop people from using our photographs unless they are being used to give substance to establishments that keep cetaceans in captivity.

It would be nice if people would let us see any research findings as thanks, and if they wish these can be posted for others to view.  This however is not a prerequisite to guarentee us this information, just it would substantiate the work we have done to know it is being used, making it all worth while.
